ABOUT SLEEPING DOG PLANTS

About Susan

Susan was a landscape designer in the Vancouver area for 15 years before moving to the Comox Valley in 2015. She’s inspired to create landscapes that tie in to the surroundings, using natural materials and with an eye on the climate changes we are all facing.  She has a keen awareness that what we grow in our gardens must also change to adapt. Susan can most often be found working in her own half acre seaside garden trialling new plants and creating freshly designed spaces.  When not in the garden, she’s often in the kitchen baking and cooking up seasonal dishes.

Sleeping Dog Plants

Sleeping Dog Plants is a budding micro nursery specializing in beautiful drought tolerant plants for residential gardens.  We are located in the Point Holmes area of Comox, on Vancouver Island.

The plants I’ve chosen to grow from seed, propagation, or division are based on the new reality we’re facing in our gardens  - hot, dry summers with very little rainfall, and colder snowy winters.  My own garden is situated by the sea and experiences high winds, salt air, sandy soil and very little shade. My goal is to raise plants that are resilient, require low water, little maintenance and yet, are unique, appealing, and will thrive in these types of gardens.

All my plants are grown in small batches and without harmful chemicals and pesticides.
